mtidman Posted November 2, 2011 Report Posted November 2, 2011 Morning All, New boy to the site guys so please be gentle.....Ok after having a good read around here i went out and purchased a nice shiny VAG COM USB Cable and VCDS Lite.Set the software up fine and got the driver installed (Only took me 2 mins i was expecting to be hours....) The qeury is the chassis type option. I am presuming Volkswagon Sharan but when i choose that option under Auto scan not a lot appears to happen. Is this correct? I have a 1998 2.3 Galaxy Ghia Ta Matt Quote
chrispb123456 Posted November 2, 2011 Report Posted November 2, 2011 (edited) Hi and welcome to the forumYes you have chosen the right option only problem is the auto scan doesn't work on the free version, what you have to do is from the main screen click select then click on, example ENGINE, or AUX HEAT.Not all modules will be relevent to your car so there will be a few where you get know response. Hope that helps  Ah ha and just noticed you have the 2.3 ford engine, unfortunately Vagcom will not read the 2.0 or the 2.3 engines as they are ford engines, however it will work on all the other components that are relevent. sparky Paul Posted November 2, 2011 Report Posted November 2, 2011 As Chris says, VAG-COM will not connect to the Ford engine, but it's still an invaluable tool which has helped me out a number of times. To read engine data and fault codes, you need a generic OBDII/EOBD type cable, the cheap ELM327 based ones work fine. Quote
